Holiday Travels - New Years...
New Years at the cabin
Early on Boxing Day, we jumped on another flight and headed back to BC. We had about 12 hours at home to unpack, sleep, repack, load the car & take off for our 3rd trip of the holidays.
For the past 14 years or so, our 'gang' has been getting together for New Years and heading for a mini-vacation to a local cabin. The only difference this year was the location of the cabin and the smaller group of only 3 families. In the past, we've secluded ourselves at either an ocean-front or mountain-side retreat. This year, we chose a small house at an urban location near Bellingham in Washington state...

After leaving Edmonton, we flew off to Ontario. We had a VERY busy time there, visiting lots of people and having lots of fun. John & I even got a few nights alone in Niagara Falls & Toronto. It was a really great visit.

Christmas in Ontario
Maya is 4 now and 'getting' the idea of Santa & Christmas & the excitement that comes with it so we thought it would be a good time for her to spend Christmas with her cousins in Ontario, who also still 'get' Santa. My parents aren't able to come this way in the winter any more so its our turn to put ourselves on a plane and head back East. It ended up being a wonderful vacation and one that we decided to repeat again next year, if we could.
The holiday started with a visit to John's parents in Edmonton. Maya LOVED the snow and wanted to play in it as much as she could, taking occasional yummy hot chocolate breaks before heading back out in to the -20 degree weather. We also got a chance to take her to the West Edmonton Mall which was as big of a success as the snow!

Day 21 - Panama Canal Cruise - Miami & Home

Even after 3 weeks on a ship, the cruise feels like its over too soon. Except for me. I'm really ready to get off. Mostly because I'm sick of eating the same selection of foods, at the same restaurants, several times a day. I need land, a beach, a walk to an unfamiliar restaurant, a comfortable bed and an activity that doesn't have an entourage or a tour leader....
Overall, the cruise was great! It was so much fun having 3 whole weeks together, without having to do any work, having mini-adventures & spending time with my parents. Sadly, as all good things do, time on the ship had come to an end. The final day was having breakfast on the ship, saying goodbye to some people we had become familiar with, disembarking through the chaos of security to our busses, and flights home.
